Bamboo Sushi is my favorite sushi restaurant in Portland, Oregon. Bold statement, perhaps, considering how many amazing sushi restaurants there are in the Rose City. But it's true, and here's why.

- Their restaurants and menus are kid-friendly.
- There are several locations, so you can count on good sushi if you're in the Portland, Seattle, Denver, or Bay area.

About Bamboo Sushi
In 2008, Bamboo Sushi became the world's first certified sustainable sushi restaurant. They source their seafood from guidelines set forth from the Monterey Bay Aquariumโs Seafood Watchย and theย Marine Stewardship Council.
More than that, the restaurant group takes its commitment to sustainability seriously at all levels of operation. In addition to food sourcing, this includes working to reduce its carbon footprint, building community relationships, and forming partnerships with organizations and other businesses that make a difference.
One of my favorite things about their website is the real-time sustainable supply chain map. Here, you can see exactly where they are sourcing the seafood for their current menus.
All of this to say that you can feel better about the food you enjoy at Bamboo Sushi. And enjoy, I am sure you will, because the food here is DELICIOUS.
Bamboo Sushi Locations
This Japanese restaurant currently has locations in Oregon, Washington, California, and Colorado.
There are five Oregon locations currently open: downtown Portland, NE Portland, SE Portland, NW Portland, and Lake Oswego.
There are two Bay Area California locations: San Jose - Valley Fair and City Center Bishop Ranch
In Washington, you'll find Bamboo Sushi in Seattle's University Village.
The final Bamboo Sushi location is in Denver, Colorado.
Currently, a few locations are open for dine-in and most are open for take-out. Be sure to check their website for the latest details.
Restaurant Vibe
Each Bamboo Sushi is a little different, but the ones I've visited in Portland are all super family-friendly. They are upscale casual where you can have business meetings and date nights, but like most restaurants in Portland, you can show up in jeans and a sweater and be totally cozy.
The Food
At Bamboo Sushi, you'll find menu items such as signature sushi rolls, traditional nigiri, and Japanese-inspired plates to share. Many of the classic sushi offerings remain throughout the year, and some rotate depending on the season and availability.
Here's a look at some of my family's fave dishes at Bamboo Sushi restaurant.
You can't go wrong with a selection of sushi rolls. My 14-year-old daughter likes more of the Traditional Rolls, such as California Rolls ($7) and Shrimp Tempura Rolls ($9).
My favorite is the Green Machine roll ($12) on the Signature Rolls list. This is a vegan and gluten-free sushi roll with crispy tempura fried green beans, green onions, avocado, cilantro, and sweet chili aioli. So good.
The Crispy Rice are also absolutely smashing here. We love the Spicy Tuna ($14), Spicy Albacore ($14) and Spicy Salmon ($13).
A mouthwatering burger may be the last thing you expect from a sushi restaurant, but don't miss the Bamboo Burger ($15). If you've got a fellow diner who isn't too into sushi, this burger will more than satisfy. It's made with a half-pound of Snake River Farms Wagyu beef on a potato bun with Tillamook aged white cheddar, caramelized onions, and momiji aioli, served with tempura
onions rings.
The restaurant does rotate out some menu items and will have special menu items for various occasions. For example, these Chili Garlic Wings were one of Bamboo Sushi's Game Day Specials around the Super Bowl. I hope they bring them back because they were CRAZY DELICIOUS. We loved them!
The Drinks
As you might imagine, Bamboo Sushi has an extensive sakรฉ list, and a lovely wine and beer list. Definitely try one of their signature cocktails. The Shotgun Shogun ($13) with Toki whisky, coconut, cardamom, lemon, and bitters is a delightful way to end a sushi meal. I also like the Sakรฉ Sangria ($11).
If you order one of their bottled cocktails to go, they come in these oh so adorable cocktail bottles! (not available at all locations)
Restaurant FAQs
Casual to dressy. Jeans are fine, but don't come in grubby workout clothes. You can also dress up here for date nights and it's all good.
Yes! The atmosphere is casual. While Bamboo Sushi does not have a dedicated kids' menu, most kids can find something to enjoy here. Picky eaters might enjoy the Chicken Karaage, California Rolls, or the Burgers.
There are plenty of vegan options at Bamboo Sushi. I recommend the Yuzu Avocado Crispy Rice, the Green Machine Signature Roll, or the Spicy Ginger Tofu Bowl.
