Park City Restaurants: Royal Street Cafe

Hitting the slopes of Park City, Utah this season? Fuel up with a delightfully fresh, hearty meal at Royal Street Cafe, one of my top Park City Restaurants picks. 

The ski season is in full swing in Park City, Utah, which is arguably one of the hottest ski destinations in the country. As I've written about before, Park City is a family-friendly destination full of fabulous year-round outdoor adventures - from Park City Mountain Resort to numerous hiking adventures. If you visit during the winter to take advantage of Park City's hundreds of miles of skiing. And don't forget to eat? One of my favorite Park City Restaurants is Royal Street Cafe.

Royal Street Cafe

Located mid-mountain in the Silver Lake Lodge of Deer Valley Resort, Royal Street Cafe offers creative American and international cuisine in a casual, contemporary lodge setting. The restaurant has a beautiful view of the mountains, and with its location right at the base of one of the ski lifts, it's a great restaurant to fuel up before - or refuel in-between - ski runs, hikes, and mountain biking adventures.

Appetizers

Royal Street Cafe tries to use fresh, local ingredients when possible, and the menus do change periodically based on seasonal eating preferences and what's available to the chefs. The photos seen here are from a visit this past summer, but many of the dishes we enjoyed are available year-round.

To start your meal, I suggest ordering the Fresh Dungeness Crab Tower ($23). Mounds of fresh Dungeness crab are layered with avocado and tomato. The tower is garnished with pea sprouts and surrounded by crispy spiced wontons that you use to dip into sauces of wasabi, soy and sweet chile. I absolutely LOVED this dish and could have devoured it all on my own. Alas, I remembered my manners and shared nicely with others. Next time, though, I'm getting one of these Dungeness Crab Towers all for myself!

The soups change regularly at Royal Street Cafe, and during our visit, our Deer Valley Resort host ordered the summer gazpacho. It looks amazingly fresh and delicious! During the winter months, you'll find soups such as crawfish bisque, and I'm told a version of their popular chili is almost always available.

Salads and main courses

The photo above shows a summer farro "salad" with summer vegetables. I loved the presentation of triangle layers. During the winter season, you can satisfy your craving for a similar hearty, healthy dish to fuel you up for mountain adventures in a Butternut Squash, Red Quinoa, Meadowlark Brie and Kale Salad ($11 small/$16 large).

I ordered the Ahi Tuna Tacos ($28). This dish is served a bit like a deconstructed taco tray that you assemble yourself. The plate is packed with grilled fresh ahi (or king salmon fillets), mango-avocado salsa, southwest slaw, and a smoked habañero mayonnaise. You have your choice of crisp corn tortilla shells or grilled fresh white corn tortillas.

Kids menu

My son approved of the kids' menu at Royal Street Cafe. Here, you'll find all of the kid favorites: pizza, grilled cheese, hamburgers/cheeseburgers, and chicken, for $12 each. My son, of course, ordered the Grilled Cheese Sandwich with fries, because my kids are determined to taste test ALL the grilled cheese & fries on kids' menus across America. That's a future post for another day!

Dessert

Whether there's snow or flowers on the ground, you're going to want to order the housemade Ice Cream Sandwiches for dessert. For $8, you get to enjoy an individual chocolate chip cookie with vanilla ice cream and hot fudge sauce. Purchase additional ice cream sandwiches for just $2 each. Because I'm (mostly) dairy-free, my son took one for the team and enjoyed this dessert. He gave it a hearty, enthusiastic, can't-speak-because-I'm-too-busy-eating thumbs up! I did try some of the cookie, however, and it is everything you want a chocolate chip cookie to be. It was chewy, buttery, with just the right amount of chocolate chips.

Visit

My son and I enjoyed our lunch at the Royal Street Cafe. It was a wonderful way to refuel after a lovely hike up the Silver Lake Trail. We ate outside on the deck, soaking up the summer sun, watching the mountain bikers ascend and descend. During the winter you can do the same from the cozy indoors watching skiers. It's a casual restaurant, and very family-friendly. The prices are higher than what you might find in non-resort restaurants, but are on-par with traditional resort restaurant prices. I admire the care the chefs take in preparing a menu packed with hearty grains and vegetables, presented beautifully. Definitely a great spot when visiting Deer Valley Resort in Park City, Utah!
