    This summer tropical sangria is a refreshing wine cocktail that serves a crowd. With summer berries and tropical fruits, plus your favorite rosé wine, serve this sangria at any warm weather gathering and tickle your guests' tastebuds!

    Summertime gatherings are meant to be free and easy, relaxing and replenishing. While mixing up cocktails for guests can be a great way to celebrate summer, they can also be time consuming making them one by one.

    Enter: the almighty sangria.

    ☀️ Summer sangria

    For years, I thought I didn't like sangria. And I've learned that's because it's really easy for people to make bad sangria. A lot of people use up a red or white wine that they don't like and think that mixing it with fruit and sparkling water will make it better.

    Sadly, that's not how it works. In graphic design and photography, we have a saying: garbage in, garbage out. Meaning: if you start with poor quality ingredients, you're going to end up with a poor quality dish or cocktail.

    So when making sangria, much like when you use wine in cooking, choose a wine that you enjoy drinking.

    🍷 What wine to use in this summer cocktail

    With this tropical sangria, we're using rosé wine, which is a lot more forgiving in flavor when mixed with other ingredients. I still suggest using a rosé wine that you enjoy drinking, but it doesn't have to be your absolute favorite or the most expensive.

    Go for a rosé wine that's lighter pink versus a richer rose color. The best rosé wines I've found to work in this recipe are a Rosé of Pinot Noir. Some of my favorite rosé wines right now:

    • La Vieille Ferme Rosé ($8.99)
    • Stoller Wine Rosé
    • Chateau de Campuget Rosé ($12.99)

    🍹 Making tropical sangria

    Sangria's superpower lies in its simplicity.

    1. Take one bottle of rosé wine, and pour it into an extra large pitcher.
    2. Add some sparkling water and juice. Sprinkle in the magic of fresh fruit. Chill.
    3. Then hours later or the next day, you can pour this liquid bliss in a glass to your friends and family, then sit back and enjoy the time with them instead of being a slave to the bar all night.

    🍽 Serving ideas

    Serve the sangria in a big pitcher and pour them into fun summer glasses. Like these colorful, beautiful Estelle colored wine glasses.

    A fun summer party could include Ricotta Crostini with Summer Berries, Ricotta, and Honey for appetizers, Grilled Pineapple Chicken and Grilled Shrimp Pineapple Skewers for the main course. Try making a Corn and Quinoa Caprese Salad as a side dish.

    Equipment

    • Large pitcher

    Ingredients

    • 1 bottle (750 ml) your favorite rosé wine
    • 2 cans (12 ounce) blood orange sparkling water
    • 1 bottle (32 ounce) mango juice
    • 2 cups sliced or chunks of pineapple, divided
    • 1 cup hulled and sliced strawberries, divided
    • ½ cup raspberries, divided
    • ice (optional)
    • mint leaves for garnish (optional)

    Instructions

    • Pour the bottle of rosé, the mango or guava juice, and the sparkling water into a large pitcher. Add ¾ of the sliced or chunks of pineapple, strawberries, and raspberries. Set aside the remaining fruit in a refrigerator-safe container or plastic bag. Place the pitcher of sangria into the refrigerator and chill in the refrigerator overnight, or for at least 6 hours.
    • When ready to serve, use the remaining fruit pieces as garnish on the rim of each glass. Add some ice cubes if it's a really hot day. Add a mint leaf as garnish to each glass if you wish. Cheers!

    Notes

    Substitution suggestions:
    • Instead of blood orange sparkling water, you can use orange or passionfruit sparkling water.
    • Instead of mango juice, you can use guava or passionfruit juice.
    This sangria is best served within 48 hours of first placing it in the refrigerator.
